Mastery of art exemplified in a fourteen-foot marvellous sculpture.
Mastered by perfecting the imperfections.
Marble was rejected and neglected for twenty-five years.
Michelangelo was destined to create his masterpiece with this block.

Magnificent depictions of the iconic biblical battle had been attempted before.
Masters like Verrocchio, Ghiberti, and Donatello had sculpted their versions.
Matchless depictions portrayed David standing victorious over Goliath’s severed head.
Moment chosen by Michelangelo broke the convention for the first time.

Michelangelo captured the look of David when he was about to go to the battle.
Masculinity chiselled painstakingly showed David standing relaxed and alert- contrapposto*.
Model of renaissance man was encapsulated- focused, balanced and in total harmony.
Magnificence of the statue has got rave reviews since the unveiling in 1504.

David remained on display in Palazzo Vecchio (Signora Square) Florence until 1873.
Due to the weathering damage, the statue is now housed in the Accademia Gallery.
